Executive Director, Master Instructor
Scott Davenport is a professional beach volleyball coach for top professional and youth volleyball teams, most recently, leading a Canadian women’s team to a 5th place at the Rio Olympics. He has worked, and continues to work with various levels including Olympians, FIVB, AVP, NORCECA, NCAA, USAV, SCVA and AAU. His teams have acquired over 50 podium finishes and garnished numerous international and domestic individual honors, including FIVB Best Blocker, FIVB Best Defender and USAV Beach Team of the Year. Scott’s developmental program consistently sees his teams improve their rankings every year.
AVP Norcal Director
Diane was captain and outside hitter for the women’s team at the University of Southern California where she led the Trojans to 2 Final Four appearances, was named All-PAC 10, and All-Region team. Diane also trained and competed with USA and was Captain of the Youth National Team. After her collegiate career, she went on to play professionally for 8 years in the Netherlands, France, Puerto Rico, Turkey and China. When she wasn’t travelling the world, Diane played 3 seasons on the AVP tour. Diane brings her vast volleyball experience and leadership skills to AVPNorcal, and we’re so happy to have her here.
AVP Academy Director of Coaching
Jason began playing professional beach volleyball for New Zealand on the FIVB World Tour for 9 years. Over this time he learned the game from some of the top international coaches, such as, Hugh McCutcheon (Olympic Gold and Silver Medals), Jeff Conover (Olympic Silver Medal). Craig Seuseu and Mike Dudson. While competing on FIVB tour Jason earned a ranking in the top 20 in the world for most of his career. Jason played in 12 AVP events finishing 7th 5 times and 9th 3 times. He was nominated best defensive player 3 times and most inspirational 2 times on the FIVB tour.
Jason is an Olympic coach for the top Canadian Men’s team Saxton/Schalk, earning 5 medals in the last two years and 20 top ten finishes and most recently a 9th place finish at the Rio Games. He also coached women’s Vanuatu National Team from 65th in the world to 17th in the world at the end of 2016. Vanuatu also won most inspirational player and nominated best Defensive player. Jason also works with USA National Team of Lane Carico and Irene Hester-Pollock in addition to Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena.
Jeff Conover, former five-year coach of the Olympic silver medalist duo of Jennifer Kessy and April Ross, is currently director of Sport and Competition for the AVP Pro Beach Tour since 2013. Conover, an ex-offiico member of the USA Volleyball Beach Assembly Administrative Council (BAAC), brings a wealth of leadership and experience within the beach development community. He served as the head coach of the USAV Elite Development Program in 2012-2013, USAV Beach National Team training coach from 2007-2013, head coach USA Pan American Games in 2011 and longtime club coach in Southern California from 2001-2011. He has 15 years of coaching junior, collegiate and professional level players. Conover, after six years of coaching many of the current USA Beach National Team members, assisted in establishing the USAV Beach Elite Development Program to further player development. As an indoor player, he was captain and setter for Cal State Northridge from 2004 to 2005.
Director of Technology and Education, Master Instructor
Adam Schulz is the current Director of Technology and Education for AVP Academies as well as the assistant coach for the Canadian Olympic beach team of Pavan/Bansley who finished 5th at the Rio Olympics in 2016. He brings a high level of volleyball analytics having work as the head scout for both the Canadian indoor and beach women’s programs over the last 8 years. He spent 2 years as an international assistant coach in Brazil working with both the men’s and women’s program in Rio De Janeiro. Before working with the Canadian National programs he was a collegiate player and then coach.
Dr. Lee Hancock
Director of Sports Psychology
Dr. Lee Hancock is a High Performance and Sport Psychology coach for professional and youth athletes as well as teams, coaches, students, and parents. He has worked, and continues to work, with performers in the Olympics, MLS, FIVB, AVP, and the NCAA, as well as with people in multiple youth sports organizations and clubs in order to ensure (and help define) success. Lee develops and implements unique discussions, workshops, programs and systems that teach people how to manage and thrive in pressure filled situations and perform at their optimal level – consistently.
Director of Nutrition Education
Nicole Springle is a Registered Dietitian who holds both a Honours Bachelor Degree and a Masters in Applied Nutrition from the University of Guelph. Nicole has provided nutrition support to Canada’s developing and podium-level athletes for the past 7 years. In her role as Lead, Sport Nutrition, Nicole oversees nutrition services for all of the CSIO’s partnered national and provincial sport organizations while providing targeted nutrition support for swimming, figure skating, wheelchair basketball, beach volleyball and golf.
As a recognized leader in sport nutrition, Nicole was recently appointed Nutrition Lead for Own the Podium’s National Sport Science and Medicine Advisory Committee and has also acted as co-chair for the Dietitians of Canada Sport Nutrition Network, representing over 300 dietitians across Canada. She is a seasoned presenter and has authored numerous articles for magazines, newspapers, and textbooks. In addition, she has shared her expertise and enthusiasm for performance nutrition and optimal health as an educator in post-secondary institutions and conferences, as well as for numerous media outlets including Breakfast Television, Global News, and City TV News.
